Contrary to previous beliefs of a botched robbery, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, the head of the SA Police Service’s National Cold Case Unit disclosed that Senzo Meyiwa’s death was orchestrated as a contract killing.
Lead Investigator’s Affidavit Unveils Shocking Details in Senzo Meyiwa Murder Case
Brigadier Ginida unveiled the shocking revelation in court during cross-examination at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Monday (today).
According to IOL, Brigadier Ginida revealed that evidence obtained during the investigation indicated that Senzo Meyiwa’s murder was a premeditated assassination orchestrated by a group of five individuals. He stated that the suspects were known hitmen with a reputation for carrying out contract killings in KwaZulu-Natal taxi wars.
According to the affidavit, Mthokoziseni Maphisa referred to as accused number four, had the role of guarding outside the house while the other accused entered. He was armed with a small firearm during the incident.
Admissibility of Confessions Challenged as Assault Claims Surface
The ongoing trial includes a separate proceeding to determine the admissibility of alleged confessions made by accused number one, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, and accused number two, Bongani Ntanzi. The two defendants claim that they were subjected to severe assault and forced to confess to Meyiwa’s murder. However, Brigadier Gininda has consistently denied these allegations, asserting that the confessions were voluntary.
Furthermore, Gininda revealed that Bongani Ntanzi had negotiated a plea bargain with the State, indicating his willingness to implicate the other accused in exchange for a reduced sentence.
The trial will continue on Tuesday, with Brigadier Gininda still undergoing cross-examination.
