Former Boxing Champion Dingaan Thobela Found Dead in His Apartment
Legendary former boxing champion Dingaan Thobela has died. Dingaan Thobela, popularly known as the ‘Rose of Soweto,’ was found dead in his apartment.
His lifeless body was discovered yesterday evening in Mayfair, Johannesburg. He was 57 years old.
Close Friend Confirms Dingaan Thobela’s Death
Eddie Mutungutu, a close friend of Thobela Dingaan, has confirmed his death to Zimoja.
He expressed concern after being unable to reach him and contacted his family to gain access to his apartment, only to discover that he had passed away.
“I struggled to reach him on his mobile and I was worried. I then contacted his family to gain access to his apartment, and we found he was no more,” he said.

Cause of Dingaan Thobela’s Death Yet to be Determined, Illness Reported
The cause of Thobela Dingaan’s death has not yet been established, but it has been reported that he had been ill for some time. Despite his illness, he was actively working on recovering.
A Glittering Boxing Career: Dingaan Thobela’s Three World Titles
Dingaan Thobela was a three-time world champion, having achieved world titles in two weight classes. He held the WBO lightweight title from 1990 to 1992, the WBA lightweight title in 1993, and the WBC super-middleweight title in 2000. With over three decades of boxing experience, he had retired but remained actively involved in the world of boxing.
