A Lesotho national has been arrested in connection with the murder of two SAPS officers and is to plead his case in a court of law.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) is mourning the tragic loss of two of its members, Constable Sipho Mohapi and Constable Gedione Motloung, who were fatally shot while responding to an armed robbery in Phuthaditjhaba. The incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, January 4, 2025, leaving the Namahadi SAPS team and the local community devastated.
Suspect Apprehended While Attempting to Flee
After a detailed investigation, authorities successfully tracked down a suspect believed to be connected to the murders. The individual, a national of Lesotho, was apprehended on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, near the Monontsha Port of Entry. The suspect was attempting to cross the border into Lesotho on horseback at the time of his arrest.
