A Limpopo family is reeling in pain after a 27-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her friend when she had gone for a spiritual session.

The deceased, Morongwa Mootane, from Ga-Sekgopo in Limpopo, went missing on Sunday, 28 July 2024, only to be found three days later after the friend confessed to the brutal crime.

Police Confirm The Gory Incident

Mopani district police spokesperson, Constable Khomotso Hlokwe, told the Daily Sun that they had arrested a 27-year-old male suspect for killing his friend, Morongwa, and ruthlessly burying her lifeless body in a shallow grave:

“Investigations led to the suspect’s residence. Upon arrival, the team noticed blood stains on the ground and clothes that matched the ones the victim was last seen wearing.

“The suspect was taken in for questioning and he confessed that he stabbed the victim to death with a knife and buried her in a shallow grave. The motive for the killing is unknown and police investigations are ongoing. The suspect will appear in the Bolobedu Magistrates Court facing a case of murder.”

Morongwe’s family is devastated by her sudden and brutal death.

They recounted to the Daily Sun that she left home for soul sessions in her village on Sunday, 28 July. That was the last time they saw her alive.

Spooked by her late return, Morongwe’s family called her phone, and no one answered. This heightened their suspicions. They looked for her everywhere, but they failed to locate her.

Their spirits dampened as days passed and on Wednesday, 31 July, one of Morongwa’s friends allegedly confessed to killing her and hiding her body in a shallow grave.

Morongwe’s aunt, 43-year-old Rachel poured her wailing heart out:

“We didn’t know it would be the last time we saw her alive when she said she was attending a soul session. She didn’t deserve to die like this, and we’ll never heal. If I was government, I would bring back the death penalty so that whoever kills must be killed too.”

The social and kind-hearted 27-year-old woman is survived by her mother, Gogo Sarah (67), three siblings and a 10-year-old daughter.
