Tears of Joy Flow as Lira Stages a Remarkable Comeback to the Spotlight Following Her 2022 Stroke
The South African music community rejoiced with overwhelming warmth as they witnessed the triumphant comeback of one of their most cherished icons, Lira.
It was a moment of sheer joy as she graced the stage for the very first time since her challenging battle with a stroke in 2022.
The Stroke That Left Lira Shattered In 2022
Lira, whose real name is Lerato Moipone Molapo, faced a life-altering moment in early 2022 while she was in Germany, preparing for a performance. The stroke left her grappling with a profound impact on her ability to communicate, particularly in her speech.
This remarkable and award-winning singer, renowned for her soul-stirring melodies like “Feel Good” and “Something Inside So Strong,” embarked on a relentless journey of intensive rehabilitation and therapy. Her mission was to regain her voice and rediscover the unwavering confidence that defined her artistry.
Lira openly shared her progress and challenges with her devoted fans on social media. In doing so, she became an inspiring beacon of courage and unwavering determination, touching the hearts of many.
Epic Stage Comeback
On September 4, 2023, Lira astounded everyone by gracing the stage at the RMB Starlight Classics event in Johannesburg, where she was invited as a special guest.
Lira was joined on stage by opera luminaries Sunnyboy Vincent Dladla and Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha, who stood by her side as she lent her voice to the classic melody “Ntyilo-Ntyilo.”
The crowd burst into cheers and applause, their hearts swelling with emotion as Lira delivered a poignant performance, vividly displaying signs of her remarkable progress and ongoing recovery.
Later, Lira shared a heartfelt video of her performance on Instagram, saying:
“This was so surreal. I was keen to try – but I did it 🥰👌🏾. I had the awesome voices of @sunnyboy.dladla and @masabane_cecilia_rangwanasha who supported me. There’s still a long way to go before I can sing on my own, let alone sing at a full concert- but this a very positive step in my recovery. I’ve been singing to loosen up my tongue, it has helped me to speak better, and I do it as part of my recovery.”
