A former police captain fell victim to a huge betrayal after she was scammed out of R3 Million of her pension payout by her Ben 10 lover.

According to a report by ZiMoja, North West authorities are pursuing a man named Dr Kalvin Sofika, aged 30, who has allegedly defrauded a retired police captain of nearly R3 million from her pension payout.

Romantic Deception Leads to Financial Ruin

The suspect, originally from Uganda, masqueraded as a medical doctor and entered into a romantic relationship with the 53-year-old retired police captain, as per ZiMoja’s report. Her new younger lover would regularly ask her to take out loans for him, and with time, he talked her into resigning from her job.

In November 2023, the police captain resigned from her position, acting on advice that she could sustain herself without a regular salary.

Compounding the deception, the alleged boyfriend introduced her to a traditional healer who also advised her to resign, promising financial benefits. This led to her losing her pension savings and additional amounts she lent to the suspect, amounting to a total loss of R2.9 million. The amount is compounding of the money she lend the suspect to start a business from her pension and all the loans that she took out for him.

Meeting and Relationship

The two initially crossed paths at an upscale complex in Rustenburg, where their relationship began. After he has scammed her out of the money, the Ben 10 was nowhere to be found. This led the former captain to file a police report that has led to the current investigation.

Ongoing Investigation

Law enforcement is still investigating the case, and no arrests have been made. Reports also indicate that the suspect moved to a different location following the incident.
