Miss SA finalist Chidimma Adetshina’s father has spoken in an interview, and South Africans online are raising red flags.

There have been emotive discussions online after Chidimma, a South African of Nigerian and Mozambican descent, progressed in the Miss South Africa contest. Some asserted that she should not be contesting in the pageant because “she is Nigerian.”

A man alleged to be Chidimma’s father was on an interview this morning, and he shared his story. He said he is a Nigerian, and his wife is South African. He also has South African children.

He added:

“I met my wife in the UK. She’s a South African. So, in 2010, during the World Cup, we decided we were gonna visit. And at that time, we [did] not have children. We decided we’re gonna visit South Africa and watch the World Cup. So, that was my first time entering South Africa. I came with a visitor’s visa because there was no other visa to watch the World Cup. So we came for the World Cup and returned back.”

He returned to South Africa in 2013 with a visitor’s visa and married his wife. He added that his children have dual citizenship, that is, Nigerian and South African.

South Africans online expressed mixed emotions about the drama:

Natasha:

“So she was born to her parents before they met 😂😂😂”

El:

“Home Affairs says they have not verified her parents documents. Chidi claims to have been born in Soweto. But her Father only came to SA in 2010. And only got married to a South African in 2013? Where was she born? 💀. Why is Home Affairs taking its time?💀”

Ibhubesi:

“This is Meth not maths , but not surprised because it’s coming from a Nigerian.”

Mosh:

“Honest question… how do you know this is her father?”

Beloved:

“If the father FIRST arrived in SA in 2010 for the World Cup. How was she then born in SA in 2001? Are we missing something?”
