Somizi Mhlongo’s ex-husband, Mohale Motaung, has come under fire after it emerged that he received R75,000 from the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture during the height of Covid-19 between 2020 and 2021.

Social media users are questioning how he obtained the funding, given that he is not an artist, and are demanding that he repay the money.

According to the Sowetan Live, Mohale Motaung applied for the funds through Glam Troupe, a company offering matric dance and graduation makeovers and styling services.

Glam Troupe, registered in 2018 under Motaung and Tlhologelo Truddy Mokwatedi, was active on social media until 2021, but its website has since been taken down.

Questions Arise Over Motaung’s Eligibility for Government Aid

Speaking out after the funding list was released, controversial poet Ntsiki Mazwai questioned why the Department of Arts and Culture gave Mohale money when he is not an artist.

She stated that Mohale must pay back the money.

Public Outcry and Calls for Repayment of Misallocated Funds

Reacting to Ntsiki Mazwai’s post, netizens concurred and questioned the criteria under which Mohale received the money. They demanded that he repay the funds.

Many social media users speculated that he got the funds because of his relationship with Somizi Mhlongo. Some humorously suggested he deserved the money for getting married to Somizi.
