Mother In Trouble For Hiring Hitmen On Son For Insurance Payout
Eastern Cape National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Luxolo Tyali stated that Moegamat was found dead with gunshot wounds to his head and neck on October 28, 2024. Dollie, reportedly unemployed, had allegedly struggled to manage her son’s drug addiction and disruptive behaviour.
“Dollie, an unemployed woman, had been experiencing problems with her son, who struggled with drug addiction and was considered a nuisance at home. Seeking advice, she allegedly consulted with various people who suggested a ‘permanent solution,’” Tyali said.
Authorities allege that Dollie initially planned to hire hitmen from Johannesburg for R80,000, enlisting two men, Shaun and Oompie, as accomplices. However, the cost reportedly increased to R380,000.
Tyali explained:
“The plan was to hire hitmen from Johannesburg for a price of R80,000, but due to the accused’s procrastination, the price later increased to R380,000.”
How The Hit Happened
According to Tyali, Dollie tricked her son into a trap by setting up a fake job interview.
“That’s when perpetrators picked him up and ultimately murdered him,” Tyali stated, adding that Dollie’s motive is believed to be a R2 million life insurance payout, which she allegedly promised to use to compensate the hitmen once the funds were received.
The state intends to oppose Dollie’s bail application, citing the serious nature of the charges. In addition to the murder and conspiracy charges, Dollie’s legal troubles could expand as investigators continue to probe her alleged involvement in her son’s death.
The court has postponed the case to November 15 for profile verification and further investigation.
