A Gqeberha mother has been sentenced to 25 years in jail for organising the murder of her 22-year-old son for insurance money.
Shaydhieda Dollie, 51, got the sentence from the Gqeberha High Court on Wednesday, November 27, for orchestrating the murder of her son, Moegamat Thaafir Dollie. The court also sentenced her to 10 years for conspiracy to commit murder, with both sentences set to run concurrently.

The shocking crime carried out on October 28, 2024, was driven by Dollie’s intent to cash in on her son’s R2 million life insurance policy. National Prosecution Authority (NPA) spokesperson Luxolo Tyali detailed the chilling premeditation.
“The crime was allegedly motivated by Dollie’s frustration with her son’s ongoing struggles with drug addiction and disruptive behaviour. Seeking advice, she allegedly consulted various individuals who suggested she find a ‘permanent solution’ to her problems,” Tyali said.
Dollie enlisted two men, known as “Shaun” and “Oompie,” to arrange hitmen from Johannesburg for the job. Initially, the contract was set at R80,000, but the price later escalated to R380,000 due to delays.
“She urged her son under the pretence of a job interview, where the perpetrators picked him up, only to later murder him. The insurance payout was intended to cover the hitmen’s cost. Shaun and Oompie are still at large,” Tyali added.
The Discovery
Police discovered the victim’s body in Missionvale with gunshot wounds to the head and neck. Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg confirmed that the deceased was identified as Moegamat Dollie from Gelvandale.
“Motive for the murder was to ensure a policy payout,” she said.
Senior State Advocate Ismat Cerfontein, during sentencing arguments, described the act as “exceptional brutality,” calling for a punishment that reflects the gravity of the crime and serves as a deterrent.
Eastern Cape Director of Public Prosecutions Barry Madolo praised the sentence, saying it proves the justice system’s commitment to holding perpetrators of heinous crimes accountable.
The hitmen and conspirators remain at large, and police continue their search for Shaun and Oompie.
