The drama keeps unfolding as the Mtutukana family is refusing to recognise Zahara’s fiance due to unfinished business.

The Marriage That Tragically Fell Apart

Zahara, born Bulelwa Mtutukana, engaged with Mpho Xaba in March of this year and started preparing for marriage. Mpho then went to Zahara’s family and paid lobola for the Loliwe hitmaker on 12 November.

As fate would have it, Zahara fell ill from liver complications barely two weeks after her lobola ceremony. So severe was her illness that she went into the intensive care unit and eventually got unresponsive. The superstar died on 11 December 2023.

When Zahara was still in hospital, her family and fiance fell out. Mpho reportedly carried the burden of hospital bills alone. He also disagreed with Zahara’s sisters when they took her business cards and went on a shopping spree. Now that the love of his life died, the Mtutukana family says they do not recognise him as a son-in-law.

The family has revealed that they do not recognise Mpho Xaba as their son-in-law. This is because he did not pay the full lobola when he married Zahara.

An insider told Zimoja:

“Things are not good at all, they are using the fact that he did not finish lobola against him.”

Another source told the publication that at last week’s memorial service, some people in the Mtutukana family did not want Zahara’s fiance to speak because he had not cleared his lobola debt.

Their contention got so hectic that Zahara’s family feared that he might get a court order to stop the memorial if he was sidelined:

“They are scared that if things don’t go his way, he might take drastic steps.”

Mtutukana family spokesperson Oyama Dyosiba commented on the issue:

“Look, there was a family meeting, certain things were brought up, including the lobola issue, and according to the family, no lobola was paid.”
