Muvhango’s Vho Masindi Now A PhD Degree Holder
Despite a traditional role portrayed by Regina Nesengani as Vho-Masindi on SABC 2’s soapie, Muvhango, in real life, she is feeding her mind with modern knowledge.
Nesengani, who is popular for her role as Chief Azwindini’s mother was conferred with a PhD Degree last week by the University of South Africa (UNISA).
Nesengani doctoral dissertation was written in her home language, Tshivenda and it focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV). According to sources close to the actress, Word Of Mouth Pictures and SABC are planning a big celebration next Wednesday; 09 December to pay homage to Vho-Masindi for her historic and momentous achievement.
The 66-year-old actress, who is a former teacher and retired from teaching in 2014, said she discovered her love for acting in 1974 and joined Muvhango in 2008.
“While doing this I was also a teacher because I also loved teaching. I only retired in 2014 because I was 60. I then started acting full-time.”
When asked in an interview the actress said she doesn’t plan to retire from Muvhango and will never leave the soapie unless they write her out.
“They made me a household name and I’ll forever be grateful. That’s why I’ll die there. People should expect to see me on Muvhango until I take my last breath.”
Nesengani further stated in an interview that being on the soapie has been a great journey,
“Old women I bump into praise my character and say she must continue protecting her son. Young ladies call Vho-Masindi mean.”
Ramakuwela Hangwani who plays the part of Mulalo Mukwevho congratulated the actress on his social media page:
