Mystery Fire Razes Summit Restaurant: Tshwane Emergency Services Unveils Details
A major fire erupted at Summit Grill and Skybar Restaurant in Garsfontein, east of Pretoria, during the early hours of Wednesday.
Videos of the restaurant located near the Garsfontein offramp to the N1 highway engulfed in flames have been circulating on social media.
Tshwane Emergency Services Confirm Summit Restaurant Fire Incident
Speaking to Jacaranda FM, Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso confirmed that the fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Mabaso gave details relating to the extent of the damage caused by the fire. He noted that, fortunately, no injuries were reported. The fire primarily ravaged the restaurant’s second floor, while the ground floor, kitchen, and rooftop remained unharmed.
At the time of writing, the cause of the fire is unknown.
“The fire was reported at Summit restaurant in Garsfontein in the early hours of this morning. Emergency services are still on the scene finalising the putting out of hot spots. Only the second floor, where the sound is being played caught fire and sustained damages, the part of the restaurant on the ground floor, and the kitchen as well as the rooftop did not suffer any damage. The cause of the fire is unknown at the moment, fire safety has been activated to conduct fire cause determination,” said Mabaso.

Multiple Fire Incidents in Tshwane
In related developments, Tshwane Emergency Services faced multiple fire incidents on Tuesday evening, exacerbated by strong winds that wreaked havoc in various parts of the city. Fires were reported in Soshanguve block X, the Dorandia dumping site in Pretoria North, the Pyramid substation, and the Kameeldrift informal settlement in north Pretoria, where several shack fires were also reported.
