Mzansi Slams Ex-Girlfriends For Turning State Witnesses in KPMG Fraud Scandal

In a surprising twist that echoes the age-old adage about honour among thieves, the ex-girlfriends of Fidelis Moema, a former KPMG bursary specialist, have now become key witnesses for the prosecution in a fraud case against him.

Moema is accused of orchestrating 431 fraudulent transactions, amounting to R16.5 million, to various companies associated with his friends and girlfriends between October 2019 and 2022.

Bail Hearings and Prosecution’s Claims

Moema and his two co-accused, Trevor Machimana and Lebogang Sigubudu, appeared at the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court for their bail applications on Thursday.

According to State prosecutor Valencia Dube, Moema allegedly pressured his former partners into establishing companies under their names. These companies would then receive funds from KPMG bursaries, which Moema purportedly siphoned off for himself. Dube noted that all of Moema’s ex-partners have come forward, providing statements to the police and now serving as key witnesses for the State.

“The State has a very strong case against accused number one [Moema] supported by Section 236 bank statements depicting the money trail from KPMG and ultimately into his bank account,” Dube emphasised.

A decision regarding bail for Moema and his co-accused is expected later today.
