Mzwandile Ngubeni Returns To Television

After a long hiatus television personality Mzwandile Ngubeni has decided it’s time to return to his first love, acting. The actor will be joining the cast of Emmy nominated telenovela production The River produced by Tshedza Pictures for DSTV’s 1Magic. He will be reprising the role of Elvis Baloyi in the fourth season of the popular telenovela.

Baloyi has introduced in the season three finale and is notable for his feature in the scene which saw the demise of Tumi Mokoena, played by Larona Moagi whose unexpected exit on the show shocked fans. His debut on the production as Elvis was earlier this month, a devious genius who pursues the show’s lead character Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikane (Sindi Dlathu) with the intention of marrying her. Sindi Dlathu will also co-produce the fourth season.

South Africa was first introduced to Ngubeni as a television presenter in 1994 on a show called Wordpower. His popularity increased after hosting the SABC1 television series Choice and Spirit Sundae. He has also appeared on many South African television productions such as Isidingo, Generations, Unicity, Mzansi, Intersexions, and City Ses’la.

Ngubeni studied at the National School of the Arts and AFDA (where he won the M-Net Best Student of the Year in 2003 and the Best Alumni Student in 2005 for Choice), he also has stints in several feature films including Witness to a Kill, In Desert and Wilderness and Jerusalem. Ngubeni, who is also the director of Theta Sonke Communications, took a hiatus to work behind the scenes. Speaking about his return to television on Twitter,

“I did what every actor should be doing go back to the floor and take acting lessons, it’s like driving if you haven’t done it in a while you need a refresher course.”, said the actor.
