A newly installed sewage pipeline eruption in China during a routine pressure test shot human waste 10 metres into the air and soaked the surrounding area.

The incident, which unfolded on September 24, left a foul mess in its wake as an orange torrent of excrement burst from the ground, drenching cars, motorcyclists, and pedestrians in the busy street.

Footage captured on a dashcam shows the intense force of the explosion, with sewage shooting high into the sky, almost shattering a car’s windshield as it came crashing down.

The poop volcano drenched cars, pedestrians, and motorcyclists alike,” a witness said, describing the chaos that followed.

The Nanning Municipal Emergency Management Bureau confirmed that the accident was caused by the rupture of a septic tank line during the pressure test.

These tests are standard procedure to ensure the strength and integrity of newly installed pipelines, but this one failed disastrously. Local authorities have ruled out earlier claims that construction work had accidentally damaged the pipeline, emphasizing that the rupture occurred solely due to the test.

“The force was overwhelming, much like a geyser,” said one witness.

Another video from a different angle shows the height and ferocity of the explosion, with sewage waste flooding the road and forcing motorcyclists to weave through the stinking aftermath. Despite the severity of the incident, no injuries were reported, and the area was swiftly cordoned off for cleaning.

Engineers had been performing the test to ensure the pipeline’s longevity, a common practice in China’s urban infrastructure projects. However, the unexpected failure has raised questions about the safety and management of similar installations in the region.

While the clean-up efforts are ongoing, officials are investigating the exact cause of the rupture to prevent such incidents in the future.

Videos of the incident have since gone viral, with social media buzzing over the unexpected sewage eruption.
