Nelson Mandela’s Grandson Mbuso Arrested for Car Hijacking and Firearm Possession
In a shocking turn of events, five suspects, including former President Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Mbuso Mandela have been arrested in connection with a car hijacking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The arrests took place this morning at the Mandela family home in Houghton.

The Hijacking Incident
The suspects, which include a woman, allegedly hijacked a man off his white Toyota Corolla at gunpoint on the busy Louis Botha Avenue in Oaklands, north of Johannesburg.
The victim, though shaken, was not physically harmed during the hijacking. He later opened a case with the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni.
Arrests at the Mandela Residence
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that Mbuso Mandela was arrested along with four suspects at the Nelson Mandela’s residence in Houghton.
The woman involved in the hijacking is believed to have rented the Mandela property.
Previous Legal Issues within the Mandela Family
This is not the first time Mbuso Mandela has faced legal troubles. In May 2022, Mbuso Mandela, was arrested in Sandton for possession of an unlicensed firearm and drugs. He had also been involved in several legal issues, including a rape charge and a theft case filed by his brother, Ndaba Mandela, in 2015.
Charges and Court Appearance
The five suspects, including Mandela’s grandson, are facing charges of car hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms.
Fihla confirmed that they will appear in court soon to face the charges.
