Nhlanhla Mafu has decided to step away from Mafikizolo and concentrate on a solo career. The singer recently released her solo single and even takes bookings as a solo artist.
For more than 28 years, Afro-pop sensation Mafikizolo has remained one of the most iconic musical duos in South Africa. Comprised of Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Mafu, Mafikizolo has been a force to be reckoned with.
They went through the tragic loss of their third member, Tebogo Madingoane, who passed away in 2004. Despite this, the group has continued to thrive, but now, Nhlanhla Nciza is venturing on a new path, shifting her focus towards her solo career.
Exploring Her Solo Career
In recent months, Nhlanhla has begun accepting bookings independently of Mafikizolo and has released her latest single, Ngithanda Wena, featuring DJ Tira and Amatycooler. This new release has fueled speculation that the beloved duo may be considering a split.

However, a close source insists that Nhlanhla’s decision to pursue solo projects is a natural progression for any artist.
“Nhlanhla is putting a lot of energy into her solo work, and she’s accepting opportunities outside the group. It’s something every artist needs to do at some point in their career.”
Rumours suggest that Nhlanhla and Theo had a minor disagreement earlier this year, further adding to the whispers of a potential split.
Relaunching Her Fashion Brand
Apart from her musical pursuits, Nhlanhla has also taken steps to expand her fashion career. She recently relaunched her line of traditional bridal gowns under NN Vintage, further establishing her presence in the fashion industry. This move solidifies her brand and identity outside of her role in Mafikizolo.

Nhlanhla explained in a recent interview with ZiMoja that the two of them have had solo careers from the beginning apart from the group. ”
We are two unique artists who come together to create Mafikizolo, but we each have our own managers and projects. The group is still very much active, and we continue to collaborate on new music. Both Theo and I will share updates when we have group or solo projects in the works.”
