The Johannesburg High Court is set to deliberate on the eleventh-hour motion filed by Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana aimed at halting the broadcast of Showmax’s anticipated four-part documentary, “Tracking Thabo Bester.”

MultiChoice, the parent company of Showmax, confirmed that the court hearing coincides with the scheduled premiere of the documentary on Showmax. The show is set to tell the story of how the two were hunted by the police. They will shed light on how they travelled to Tanzania, where they were finally caught and arrested.

Termed as the “Facebook rapist” and a victim of a tragic demise, Bester, along with his partner Magudumana, initiated separate legal actions this week, citing concerns about potential violations of their rights.

“Showmax has engaged legal representatives and intends to vigorously contest these legal manoeuvres,” stated a spokesperson from MultiChoice.

Emphasizing the gravity of the accusations levelled against Bester and Magudumana, Showmax stressed the significance of allowing viewers to access the documentary and formulate their own perspectives.

“Showmax firmly maintains that these attempts lack legal validity and encroach upon the constitutional rights of the public,” asserted MultiChoice.

Thabo Bester and Nandipha Magudumana charges

Thabo Bester was in jail for violating women through Facebook, where he posed as an agent. While in jail, he staged a fire and murdered someone to facilitate his illegal escape. It is known that for several months he lived with Nandipha under the radar.

When the authorities found out he was not dead, that is when Bester escaped and left the country. The two went to Tanzania through Zimbabwe but were caught in Tanzania.
