The child’s father wasted no time and reported the incident to the Norwood police station in Johannesburg, leading to Ntabiseng’s immediate arrest and the initiation of a thorough investigation.
Child Placed in Protective Care
Recognizing the urgent need to protect the child’s well-being, the Gauteng social development department swiftly intervened. According to News24, the traumatized one-year-old has been removed from Ntabiseng’s custody and placed under the care of the provincial social development department. Working in collaboration with a non-profit organization, the department ensured the child’s placement in a safe environment where he will receive the necessary support and care.
Mbali Hlophe, the Gauteng Social Development, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment MEC, stated,
“Working with our NPO, the Gauteng Department of Social Development has arranged for the child to be taken to a children’s home after receiving a full health assessment at the hospital to determine the extent of injuries from the ordeal. The child is currently in safe care, receiving treatment and support from our dedicated childcare workers.”
Legal Proceedings Underway
Legal proceedings are underway, with Ntabiseng Nhlapo appearing in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court. The case is expected to be heard in the Children’s Court, where appropriate legal action will be taken to ensure the child’s safety and hold the responsible parties accountable. As part of the investigation, the police have been instructed to collect cellphones from both parents to gather additional evidence related to the incident.
