Open Mic Founder and Wife Clash with Neighbour in Midrand Estate
It appears that Lionel Jamela, the owner of the record label Open Mic Productions, has a questionable reputation not just professionally, but also in his personal life.
Open Mic Productions has faced criticism over its treatment of musicians in the past.
The Genesis of the Conflict
Recently, Lionel Jamela and his wife, Phumeza Ntshengulana Jamela, had a dispute with a neighbour in their upscale Midrand estate. The neighbour, Owethu Tshangela, who is a mother of two and works as an interior decorator and estate agent, claims she was assaulted by the couple. However, Lionel and his wife counter that she is a violent and dishonest individual.
The conflict between Owethu and the Jamelas began when her ex-boyfriend became romantically involved with Phumeza’s sister. They share the same neighbourhood, and when the relationship between Owethu’s ex-boyfriend and her neighbour became serious, they wanted Owethu to vacate the home they once shared. Since then, Owethu has been living a nightmare.
On a Sunday, August 27th, while Owethu was working at the estate’s clubhouse, she alleges that Lionel and his wife physically attacked her. She claims they slapped, kicked, and verbally assaulted her. Lionel reportedly even used his belt to beat her while his wife slapped her repeatedly.
“I was working at the clubhouse, and they came and attacked me. There was a market day and people were present. They attacked me verbally. They beat me, kicked and slapped me. Lionel took off his belt and beat me with a belt while his wife slapped me several times,” she said.
Denials and Accusations: Open Mic Founder Speaks On Clash With Neighbour
When contacted for a comment, the Open Mic boss denied any physical aggression towards his neighbour. Instead, he stated that Owethu had insulted his family and friends, alleging that she is bitter after her breakup with her ex-boyfriend, which has nothing to do with him. He emphasized their desire for a peaceful environment to raise their children.
Additionally, Owethu’s close friend shared a legal document with ZiMoja, which showed that Lionel and his wife had sent a cease-and-desist notice through their legal team regarding the alleged verbal and physical abuse directed at their family by their neighbour.
