Narrow Escape: Orlando Pirates Legend Julius ‘KK’ Sono Cheats Death in Terrifying Car Accident

Orlando Pirates icon Julius ‘KK’ Sono narrowly escaped a tragic fate following a harrowing car accident last Friday afternoon. Sono, renowned in football circles and father to Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena, is counting his blessings after a white Mercedes Benz he was driving was rear-ended.

The incident unfolded on the very street where Sono resides in Orlando East, a mere stone’s throw from the historic Orlando Stadium where he once dazzled fans with his football prowess during the 1980s.

Sono, an avid supporter of his son’s coaching endeavors, came close to missing out on witnessing Rhulani lead Sundowns against Pirates in their Saturday night showdown in Pretoria.

The former player, who is also the younger sibling of another Pirates luminary, Jomo Sono, recounted the terrifying moment when his Mercedes Benz was struck by a speeding Jeep. Taking to Facebook, he expressed profound gratitude to the heavens for sparing his life in what could easily have been a fatal collision.

“God is great look at this car at the back. My life is important to God. Flying V8 Jeep hit my Benz at the back,” he wrote.

In response, concerned Facebook users flooded the comments section with messages of support and relief upon learning about the legend’s close call. Here are some of the comments:

Grootman is this Eric Scara Sono car

Peter Mallett:

That’s awful I hope no serious injuries. Are you okay? You must have a guardian angel. Be careful over the next few days, monitor for neck and back pain and don’t tell anyone you are 100 percent okay until, you are sure. I went through a similar experience and my injuries didn’t start to hurt until a week or more later.
