Orlando Pirates In-laws Decline R20,000 Lobola Offer for Mother of His Two Children

Orlando Pirates’ midfielder, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, faced an embarrassing situation when his prospective in-laws outright rejected a R20,000 lobola payment from his representatives.

Initial Lobola Offer and Family’s Demands

Ndlondlo had initially entrusted his delegation with R20,000 for his girlfriend and mother of his child, Kgaukgelo Gulame’s lobola. However, things took an unexpected turn when sources revealed that the Gulame family, including the uncles and their delegation, insisted on a R150,000 lobola for their daughter.

A source close to Ndlondlo’s representatives disclosed that they were swiftly escorted out of the house as Kgaukgelo’s family felt that the initial offer undervalued their daughter.

“Kgaukgelo and Ndlondlo have been together for many years and they have two children together. I don’t understand why her family is being unfair towards him and is demanding such a ridiculous amount,” a source told ZiMoja.

Speculation Why Orlando Pirates Star’s Lobola is Rejected

According to another person familiar with the couple, Kgaukgelo was disappointed when her family turned down the R20,000 offer. She knew her partner had intended it as a deposit, a gesture to show his sincerity and commitment to pay lobola for her. The source also mentioned that Ndlondlo had hoped they would request no more than R40,000.

According to another source, Ndlondlo has a strained relationship with his father and, as a result, decided to invite his friends and elderly neighbours to join his delegation. This might explain why Kgaukgelo Gulame’s family declined the R20,000 offer. The source also mentioned that Ndlondlo didn’t take the rejection well.

Shifting Expectations and Ndlondlo’s Unique Circumstances

The source speculated that the family may have raised their expectations once they realized that none of Ndlondlo’s immediate family members were present. This is because Ndlondlo lost his mother, and he never had a close relationship with his father. He considered Kgaukgelo’s family as his own, especially since he lives with her full-time. Before the lobola negotiations, he even hosted a traditional gathering in Alberton, and most of the attendees were from her side of the family, as he doesn’t have many family members of his own.

“Remember his mother died and he never had a relationship with his father. He regarded them as a family because he is staying with Kgaukgelo full time and before the lobola negotiations, he hosted a traditional gathering at his house in Alberton and most of the people who attended were from her side of her family as he doesn’t have many family members,” the source said.

The source also expressed that the couple was disappointed because they wanted to make their relationship official and set a positive example for their children. It must have been very disheartening to be excited about taking the first step towards their new life, only to have the delegation return empty-handed.

When ZiMoja contacted Ndlondlo and Kgaukgelo for a comment on the matter, they declined to provide one.
