Passengers spiritedly jumped out through the windows after a PUTCO bus caught fire along Moloto Road earlier this morning.

 

Passengers Leap Through The Windows After PUTCO Bus Caught Fire

The bus was heading to Centurion, along Moloto Road, when it developed a fault and burst into flames. The Public Utility Transport Corporation (PUTCO) confirmed the accident and disclosed that 22 passengers were injured. There were no deaths.

The bus company’s spokesperson, Lindokuhle Xulu, told The Sowetan:

“Our immediate priority has been the wellbeing of the passengers affected by this unfortunate event. We can confirm that we have provided prompt passenger assistance, particularly in addressing their injuries. Putco is still probing the cause of the fire. As investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, we are actively collaborating with relevant authorities to gather all necessary information.

“Safety is our top priority, and we are committed to ensuring that every aspect of this incident is thoroughly reviewed and addressed. Our thoughts are with 22 passengers who were injured, and we extend our gratitude to the emergency response teams, including private and state ambulances, for their swift actions and support during this challenging time.”

In a video that has gone viral on social media, the bus was on fire, and passengers were jumping through the windows. They leapt and landed on the ground awkwardly, and some sustained injuries in the process. Some members of the public rushed to the bus to help the passengers escape from the fiery bus.
