Law enforcement officials investigating the tragic death of renowned rapper Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, have disclosed that they will not detain Mfundo Gcaba, a businessman from KwaZulu-Natal. This decision stems from the absence of substantial evidence tying him to the assassination, as revealed by a senior police officer to Sunday World, who opted to remain anonymous.

The arrest of suspects in AKA and Tibz’s murder case

AKA and his associate Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane met their untimely demise outside Wish restaurant in Durban last year. While several suspects, including Muziwethemba Gwabeni, were apprehended and charged with the murder, Gwabeni, described as a taxi magnate, allegedly received a sum of R800,000 to orchestrate the fatal attack.

During their inquiry, investigators purportedly traced the hefty sum deposited into Gwabeni’s account back to Gcaba. Subsequently, Gwabeni purportedly disbursed over R133,000 to each of the perpetrators involved in executing the hit.

An informant within the police force familiar with the intricacies of the Forbes murder case divulged that establishing a connection between the seven accused individuals and the crime proved relatively straightforward. Their collaboration and communication via telephone calls, alongside previous joint involvements in legal matters, facilitated this process.

Police can’t link Mfundo Gcaba to the murders.

However, the source stressed the current insufficiency of evidence to implicate Gcaba in the murders.

“The financial transactions and two telephonic exchanges between Gcaba and Gwabeni do not provide adequate grounds for an arrest or interrogation,” the informant remarked. “Authorities are keen on unravelling the motives behind Gwabeni’s actions and identifying the masterminds believed to wield greater influence in this scenario,” the source added, opting for anonymity.

When pressed regarding Gcaba’s absence from joint proceedings alongside the other accused individuals, Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal National Prosecuting Authority, refrained from comment, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
