Rape Case Against DJ Fresh & Euphonik Dismissed

The rape case against radio personalities DJ Fresh and Euphonik has been dismissed after the National Prosecuting Authority declined to prosecute the case. The dismissal of the rape case against DJ Fresh (real name Thato Sikwane) and DJ Euphonik (real name Themba Nkosi) cames barely a week after the two well-known radio personalities were fired from radio station 947 by Primedia Broadcasting.

The DJs were facing rape allegations after they were accused of drugging and raping a university student at a party back in 2011. The alleged victim went public with her accusations on social media last month. She accused the pair of raping her and laughing about it afterwards. She also said that at the time of the rape she had been a virgin and that the trauma from the ordeal was so bad that she is now taking anti-anxiety medication.

Soon afterwards the police in Gauteng confirmed that they had opened a formal rape case against DJ Fresh and Euphonik following the complaint’s allegations. However, the prosecutor on the case has declined to proceed further saying that the rape allegations against the two DJs are without merit due to a lack of evidence. The docket has been marked Nolle Prosequi, a Latin phrase meaning “will no longer prosecute.”

Just to clarify, the case against DJ Fresh and Euphonik never appeared before a judge and the two were not acquitted in court.

The dismissal of the case comes just 5 days after the two entertainers were fired from their jobs at the famed 947 radio station by Primedia Broadcasting. At the time, Acting CEO of Primedia Broadcasting Geraint Crwys-Williams insisted that the decision had been made for the good of the organisation and that it was not a reflection of the veracity of the rape allegations against Euphonik and Fresh.

After being fired, DJ Fresh and Euphonik released a statement saying that they were confident that they were going to be cleared.
