Kiernan Forbes, also known as “AKA”, lost his life in a tragic shooting incident at a well-known nightspot on Durban’s Florida Road on Friday evening.
A first responder who was present at the scene, spoke under the condition of anonymity, and shared that Forbes was standing on the sidewalk when the shooting occurred at around 22:00. The sudden outburst of gunfire took the lives of two men.
KwaZulu-Natal police representative, Robert Netshiunda, confirmed to News24 that a shooting incident in Durban’s Florida Road on Friday evening claimed the lives of two individuals, one of whom was a well-known rapper.
“I can confirm that two men were killed, one of whom was a well-known rapper. However, the police will not be releasing any names of the victims until a full investigation has been completed.”
The shooting took place in a popular entertainment area, causing the road to be closed by police officers. ALS Paramedics spokesman, Garrith Jamieson, reported that two men had lost their lives in the shooting and both had suffered from gunshot wounds. Despite attempts to save one of them, he was unable to survive his injuries.
Forbes was scheduled to perform in the city on Friday night, and videos posted on Instagram show him enjoying a night out with friends before the tragic incident. Efforts are still underway to reach police officials for comment.
It’s worth mentioning that Forbes’ fiancé, Anele Tembe, passed away in April 2021 after falling from her hotel room in Cape Town.
