Real Housewives Of Durban Breaks Showmax Records

Real Housewives of Durban (RHOD) which aired last Friday exclusively on Showmax has broken Showmax’s first episode viewing records.

The first episode landed on Showmax at 00:00, with die-hard fans staying up until midnight to stream. Views started to pick up from 07:00, continuing to rise throughout the day with views peaking at 20:00. Over the previous days, RHOD has remained the most popular show on Showmax.

Speaking about the success of the first episode, Candice Fangueiro, head of content at Showmax, said, “we know our reality fans come for the drama and if you are looking for fireworks, the first episode of RHOD has it all, so we are not surprised to see it break records.”

RHOD is the 24th international and second South African instalment of The Real Housewives franchise, which is distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Formats, a division of Universal Studio Group. The new show is set to build on the popularity of The Real Housewives of Johannesburg, which was one of the 10 most streamed local series on Showmax in 2019.

New episodes land every Friday, with the second landing on 5 February, the third on 12 February, and the fourth episode on 19 February, when viewers will get to meet the show’s sixth housewife Nonkanyiso Conco, who owns a beauty brand Laconco Naturals.

RHOD will be available in more than 40 African countries, taking the sassiness, spice and saltiness of Durban to the continent.
