Daluxolo Hoho, a well-known poet from the Eastern Cape, was gunned down and killed outside his home in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Tuesday evening.
Poet Daluxolo Hoho Gunned Down At Home
The former Umhlobo Wenene radio host was gunned down while fixing his car, sustaining two fatal gunshot wounds to the head.
Hoho’s murder has left his family and community in shock, as the poet was known to have no apparent enemies. Close friends and family members, including Nosipho Daniels, expressed disbelief to Zimoja at the violent end to a man they describe as someone “going through a lot in his life” but undeserving of such a fate.
Hoho’s sister, Zanele Hoho, declined to comment on the ongoing investigation, stating that the family is now living in fear, not knowing the motives behind her brother’s killing:
“It is best for us to let the cops do their job. We hope that the people behind this will be found soon,” she said.
Paternity Nightmare
Just days before the fatal incident, Hoho took to social media to share a series of emotionally charged videos. He revealed the heart-wrenching story of supporting a child for seven years, only to discover that the child, claimed by his baby mama – a gospel singer – was not biologically his. The revelations led to a court order mandating Hoho to remove the contentious posts, as his alleged baby mama accused him of defamation.
Daniels revealed that the revelation about the child’s paternity had a profound impact on Hoho’s mental well-being, pushing him into a state of depression. Despite the court order, he continued grappling with the situation, leading to legal troubles.
“Weeks before his murder, things went from bad to worse, especially after the baby mama had told him that the child was not his. He invested his time into the DNA issue, and it even got him into trouble with the law. We don’t know why he was gunned down because the killers never took anything from him,” Daniels shared.
