Six ANC Members Die, Several Others Injured in Limpopo Bus Accident

In a devastating incident, six people died, and several others were injured after the bus they were travelling in was involved in a tragic accident.

A bus carrying ANC members reportedly overturned and rolled in Makgoebaskloof outside Tzaneen, Limpopo.

The victims, all members of the ANC from the Molemole Subregion within the Capricorn District Municipality, were en route from Botlokwa to Mbombela stadium in Mpumalanga for the party’s 112th birthday rally.

Six ANC Members Die in Limpopo Bus Accident

According to the Department of Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, preliminary reports reveal that three buses were travelling in a convoy when the third bus collided with the second one from behind. The impact caused the third bus to overturn and plunge into a nearby gorge around 3:30 am.

Department of Transport and Community Safety in Limpopo, Spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene revealed emergency and rescue personnel are currently at the scene, with injured passengers already transferred to hospitals in the Mopani district.

ANC Mourns Loss of Members

According to Zimoja, Deputy Secretary-General of the African National Congress, Nomvula Mokonyane, expressed her confirmation of the incident and conveyed heartfelt condolences.

We were informed this morning that six members of this organisation from Peter Mokaba Region were involved in a bus accident while they were travelling to Mbombela from Limpopo. This is a very devastating moment. We are waiting for a report from them. We are saddened by the news, and we will do better in their memory,” Mokonyane said. 

In response to the tragedy, Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, and other government leaders from the province have redirected their focus from the January 8 Statement in Mbombela to attend to the accident scene.
