It has now been reported that SABC 1 just inked a 3 year deal with Stained Glass TV, which is owned by former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter; Gugulethu Zuma Ncube and Pepsi Pokane. Uzalo is still the most viewed soapie in Mzansi’s with reported 8.8million views in October. The recent deal between SABC 1 and the soapie is the longest deal that the SABC has ever signed with any soapie.

These were some of the reactions from Tweeps:

“The show is useless now and it has lost its spark. It must be cancelled.”

“The show is kind of trash these days, recycling storylines.”

“Uzalo has the highest viewership ratings but the quality of their product is questionable. Clearly, they are benefiting from a lack of options for the viewers.”

“Maybe the broadcaster and the production company reached an agreement for writers to up their game.”

Recent media reports stated that the show was put on notice by the SABC, to come up with creative storylines or face being canned following months of “boring” content and declining viewership.

The show reported an 11.4million viewership in April and declined to an 8.8 million viewership in October.

It was also revealed that the SABC instructed the production company; Stained Glass TV to ensure that all actors were paid decent salaries, as the broadcaster was unhappy with the low salaries some actors were earning on the show. Season 7 begins in March 2021.
