SAPS Speak On AKA’s Killers Arrest
KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner clarified reports regarding the arrest of suspects in connection with the murder of AKA.
However, Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi confirmed that while two suspects have been arrested, their charges do not pertain to the AKA case. Instead, the individuals are being extradited to South Africa to face charges in an unrelated murder and attempted murder case.
“I wish to place it on record that the suspects in question will be coming back to South Africa to face a case of murder and attempted murder where a man, who was a passenger in a vehicle, was shot and killed in Berea on 6 March 2023. The driver of the vehicle survived the shooting and managed to drive to a fuel station in Berea, where she sought assistance. Investigation into that particular case pointed to the suspects who were traced and found to be hiding in Eswatini.”
Mkhwanazi stressed that the investigation into the murders of AKA and Tibs remains a priority, given its significant public interest both locally and internationally.

However, he emphasised the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation, stating that any developments will be communicated first to the families involved and then to the public through the media.
“Investigations into that particular matter are at a sensitive stage, and the police do not wish to communicate any information that may compromise the investigation process. The AKA’ and Tibs murder case is a complex one, and there was and still are tons of evidential information to be analysed and processed. This is a prosecution-led investigation, and when the police have tied all the loose ends and covered all the loopholes, an announcement into the investigation and the progress thereof will be communicated in due time.”
