Senzo Meyiwa’s Childhood Friend Reveals How Kelly Khumalo’s Mom Took Down One Of The Intruders
Senzo Meyiwa’s childhood friend has once again narrated Kelly Khumalo’s mom took down one of the intruders on the night the soccer player died.
Mthokozisi Thwala is one of six people who were at the house when Meyiwa was gruesomely gunned down at his then-girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, in October 2014.
Thwala Recounts Senzo Meyiwa’s Death
Daily Sun reported that he is the second witness called by the state to talk about the shooting. Speaking in the North Gauteng High Court on 2 August, Thwala said they had just finished eating and were having a light conversation when he saw someone emerging from behind Kelly.
He told the court:
“When this person appeared, he was behind Kelly. I then looked at Senzo. What I remember is that he asked for phones and money. Kelly ran into a bedroom.
“At first, I thought it was a joke. I don’t know why. At home, they know I love to joke but what made me realise it was serious was when I saw a firearm. It was in his right hand.”

Thwala explained to the court that things unfolded so rapidly, and the first person to spring to action was Longwe Twala. He described how he moved towards the suspect holding the gun, shoved him away, and then moved past.
He added:
“That’s when I saw everyone standing up to attack the intruder. I remember Senzo having a scuffle with the person who had a firearm. The person wasn’t dark or light. He was just fair in complexion and had dreadlocks and protruding cheekbones.
“I then took the phone. On my way back to the kitchen then, I bumped into Christian, Kelly’s son. I remember picking Christian up from left to right, moving him from harm’s way. Kelly’s mother took Tumelo Madlala’s crutches and assaulted one of the intruders. What I can’t remember is who exactly they were trying to assault”
