Shauwn Mkhize’s Family and Associates Under Scrutiny in Massive Tax Investigation

Wealthy businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize is at the centre of a high-profile tax investigation by the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

According to Zimoja, the inquiry, which started on Friday, 11 July, is focused not only on MaMkhize but also on her family and close associates. The Shandi Trust, in which MaMkhize’s family is involved, is reportedly indebted to SARS for over R37 million, while MaMkhize herself faces a personal tax liability of R13 million.

Other individuals summoned for the investigation include Shaun Stylist of Lungza Management Consultants CC and Nozipho and Mvusi Ngubo along with Thelma Louise Smuts for the Lungazwile Family Trust. Senzekile Mseleku, MaMkhize’s niece and director of DPA Project Managers and Facilitators, was also expected to attend but did not.

Key Appearances and Developments

According to the publication, on Monday, 15 July, MaMkhize’s estranged husband, Sbu Mpisane, appeared at the inquiry. His son, Andile Mpisane, failed to attend as scheduled.

Lethukuthula Zuma represented his company, 22 Aston Investment (Pty) Ltd., during the proceedings. The inquiry has uncovered issues such as incorrect addresses for many involved companies, which has complicated the tracing of the relevant taxpayers.

Meanwhile, the Pietermaritzburg High Court has since appointed Jaco Venter as a curator to oversee the attachment of 13 luxury cars held under the Shandi Trust.

A source close to the case hinted that significant details would emerge once the hearing concludes, suggesting that the final report is set to reveal damning, shocking information.
