Shauwn Mkhize’s Royal AM Suspended by PSL Amid Financial Woes

The challenges for reality TV star Shauwn ‘Mam’Mkhize’ Mkhize have worsened as the Premier Soccer League (PSL) suspended all Royal AM fixtures until further notice.

This decision comes amid ongoing financial woes, including unpaid salaries for December 2024, following a court ruling that placed the team under SARS’ curatorship.

Frozen Funds and Cancelled Matches

Royal AM’s financial troubles began after a preservation order and search seizure warrant was granted in a case involving SARS, Mkhize, and others.

The freezing of funds led to the team’s inability to meet its obligations, such as paying player salaries and fulfilling match commitments.

The team was scheduled to play Orlando Pirates at Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday, 23 January, but the match has been cancelled.

This marks the second match cancellation following Royal AM’s failure to face Chippa United FC on Saturday, 11 January.

PSL’s Statement on Royal AM Suspension

According to the Daily Sun, On Wednesday, 22 January, PSL acting CEO Mato Madlala informed all PSL chairpersons about the suspension of Royal AM fixtures. The league also released a statement highlighting the team’s failure to meet commitments under curatorship.

“On 9 January 2025, Royal AM FC informed the league that it could not meet its commitments in respect of its match against Chippa United FC on 11 January 2025 due to difficulties arising from the appointment of a curator,” read part of the statement.

The PSL Executive Committee (ExCo) held three meetings to address the issue. The ExCo awaited a joint letter of comfort from club management and the curator, ensuring the resolution of financial issues. However, no such letter was provided, leading to the suspension of Royal AM fixtures.

Future of Royal AM in Jeopardy

Royal AM last played a PSL match on 29 December 2024, losing 3-1 to TS Galaxy. They are currently in the relegation zone, which adds to their mounting woes. The ExCo plans to meet again on Friday, 24 January, to discuss the matter and provide Royal AM another opportunity to present their case.

With Royal AM’s future hanging in the balance, Shauwn Mkhize faces increasing pressure to navigate her team through this financial and operational crisis.
