Spokesperson Confirms Metro Police Officer Died While on Duty
TMPD spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba confirmed the details to the Daily Sun, noting that Mnisi was from Region 3 Sector 2 (Inner-city).
“Mnisi was a true warrior. He tragically lost his life while in uniform, returning from duty in Brooklyn, where he was stationed at a marathon event. He was known for his professionalism, dedication, and willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty. He’ll be remembered as a reliable and hardworking officer who always put the needs of the community first,” Mahamba said.
The sudden loss of Mnisi has left his colleagues and community in deep sorrow.
City officials also expressed their grief. Chief of Police Commissioner Yolanda Faro and the City of Tshwane extended their condolences to Mnisi’s family, offering support during this difficult time.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they navigate through this tragic loss. We also stand in solidarity as the TMPD, the City of Tshwane, and the family at large, as we mourn the passing of one of our own,” said Faro.

The Risky Public Job
The accident reflects a harsh reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day, TMPD spokesperson Mahamba said. Thirty-nine officers died on duty between April 2023 and March 2024. TMPD officers regularly put their lives at risk to protect the public, and Mnisi’s death highlights the sacrifices made by these officers, he reiterated.
“The loss of Constable Mnisi serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face daily while carrying out their duties,” Mahamba said.
As the department mourns, Mahamba called for recognition of the dedication of all officers:
“May his soul rest in peace, knowing that he made a difference in the lives of those he served,” he added. “As we mourn the loss, we should also take a moment to honour and appreciate the dedication and bravery of all law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line daily to protect and serve.”
Details of Mnisi’s memorial service and funeral will be announced later.
