A Polokwane mother beheads her wheelchair-bound son in a gruesome murder that has left many shocked and speechless. The community has been left with a lot of questions more than answers.

A 48-year-old woman stands accused of a horrifying crime, accused of taking the life of her 18-year-old son by severing his head from his body. The grim events unfolded in the quiet confines of Leshikishiki village within the Lebowakgomo policing area.

Police report and the mother’s arrest

The tragic episode came to light when authorities received a distressing report concerning the untimely demise of a young man around 1:00 PM on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Upon reaching the site adjacent to a local tavern, law enforcement encountered a harrowing scene—a lifeless 18-year-old male sprawled in his wheelchair, his head gruesomely separated from his body, resting nearby. Shockingly, no witnesses lingered nearby.

Police swiftly launched into a meticulous inquiry, eventually locating the mother of the deceased. Following exhaustive scrutiny, she was conclusively linked to the heinous act and promptly apprehended.

At the scene, authorities secured a knife believed to be the instrument employed by the perpetrator to carry out the macabre deed.

SAPS Comments On The Murder

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, expressed profound dismay over the tragic turn of events that led to the demise of a young man at the hands of his own parent.

“This heart-rending incident has cast a pall over our community and the law enforcement fraternity alike. Such callous actions by the accused mother are unequivocally condemned. Justice will be served impartially and expeditiously,”

The authorities have formally filed a case of murder, yet the motive driving this grisly assault remains shrouded in mystery.

The suspect is slated to make her initial appearance before the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court in the ensuing days.
