AKA’s Shooting Incident

South African rapper AKA-Kiernan Jarryd Forbes was shot and killed on the 10th of February 2023. He was gunned down alongside his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane in Durban just outside Wish Restaurant.

A video footage capturing the moment he was shot dead by armed assailants went viral on social media.

Different conspiracy theories emerged following AKA’s death with many opining that his close associates conspired and got him killed. AKA’s close friends, Don Design and K.O’s brother Siya Mdluli, were implicated in his murder.

On the other hand, his late fiancee Anele Tembe’s father was also accused of hiring Inkabi (hitmen) and ordering a hit on AKA as revenge for his daughter’s death.

After months of investigations and speculation,  police minister Bheki Cele finally confirmed what many people suspected all along that his close associates masterminded his murder.

Bheki Cele Confirms AKA Was Killed By His Associates

Speaking during an interview with Faith Mangope on Metro FM, Bheki Cele made some damning claims as he confirmed many people’s suspicion that AKA murder was orchestrated by those close to him. Minister Cele confirmed that AKA was murdered by his close associates.

During the interview radio host Faith asked Minister Cele if AKA was killed by “inkabi” [hitmen].

Responding to the question, the minister revealed that some of the people involved in AKA’s murder were his close associates:

“Let me not get in that one, but those people, some of those people were hired. I guess once you are hired, you are inkabi, but some of those people were close associates,” he confirmed.

He, however, declined to divulge the names of the close associates who masterminded AKA’s assassination.

Bheki Cele revealed that police were still gathering more information, which they had received from two eyewitnesses, who were now in police protection.

Police Identify Gun Used to Kill Rapper AKA

Even though AKA’s assailants and those involved in his death have not yet been arrested, the police have made a couple of breakthroughs in the murder case. In September, the South African Police Service (SAPS) in KwaZulu-Natal confirmed that they had identified the gun that was used to kill AKA and his long-time friend Tibz.

“We have positively identified one firearm that was used to shoot and kill Mr. Forbes,” KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner,” KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said.

In addition to identifying the firearm, the police announced that they had identified the individuals responsible for the murders and the vehicles they used as getaways.
