Simphiwe Dana Engaged To Her Lesbian Lover
Award-winning musician and actress; Simphiwe Dana and her opera-singer girlfriend; Pumeza Matshikiza is engaged!
The musician came out as gay to the world in November of 2020 and she’s already engaged. The Bomako hitmaker said she has been keeping her lesbianism a secret for far too long and felt it was about time to come out of the closet. “I’ve been holding this in since forever. I’m gay.”
However, those close to Dana have revealed that it was an open secret as the actress and singer had also dated Latoya Makhene’s wife years ago.
Dana posted a series of pictures of the pair showing off their engagement rings and revealing how happy they are. The lovebirds got engaged this past December.
When the singer’s fans congratulated them on social media, she revealed that her girlfriend wants a big wedding.
It is unclear who proposed who in this case as both women have engagement rings on, unlike with Lebo Keswa and Latoya’s engagement where Keswa proposed marriage.
It is unclear when the duo will actually get married as the country is in level 3 and might go back to level 5 because the Covid cases have increased dramatically.
This was what she tweeted when she came out last year:
“I know coming out means Africa will block me. But, after a lot of thinking, I’m ok with it. I’m marrying a woman, and I’ve never been happier.”
Who is Dana’s fiancé?
Pumeza Matshikiza is a South African opera singer who is based in Germany. She hails from the Eastern Cape like Dana and studied at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and Royal College of Music.
She kicked off 2020/2021 by taking on the role of Bess and Serena in George Gershwin’s; Porgy and Bess at Theatre an der Wien which is a historic theatre in Vienna, Austria.
