“Singing For His Supper”: Mzansi React as Somizi Reveals Which Political Party He is Voting For Next Year
In a whirlwind of political revelation, South African media personality Somizi Mhlongo set social media ablaze with his announcement of the political party he intends to vote for in the upcoming 2024 national elections.
The Idols SA judge, known for his charismatic personality, surprised the audience at the Miss and Mr King Cetshwayo District Municipality pageant with a bold declaration of support for the Inkhatha Freedom Party (IFP).
As the MC for the beauty pageant, held at the University of Zululand in Empangeni, northern KZN, Somizi took center stage and unreservedly stated,
“I, Somizi Mhlongo, am Inkatha Freedom Party. I don’t care about you. Next year, I’m here. Anything about Inkatha, I’m here.”
If I change, then turn your back against me, we agree? Mayor, you know that I’m voting for Inkatha. I’m not sure about you. But, based on his fashion sense [points at man behind him] I’ll be minister of fashion,” he said.

Social Media Buzzes as Somizi Mhlongo Reveals IFP as His Election Pick
While the IFP-led Municipality hosted the event, some social media users were quick to speculate about the authenticity of Somizi’s political allegiance.
Critics argued that his statement was merely a means to appease the hosts and secure more gigs and monetary benefits from the political party.
The internet buzzed with contrasting reactions, with some questioning whether his support for the IFP was genuine or a mere façade for personal gain. Skeptics pointed out that Somizi’s political affiliations have seemingly changed in the past, implying that he may switch allegiances in the future. Some humorously predicted that he might announce support for other parties, such as the EFF or ANC, at different events down the line.
However, amidst the playful banter, some netizens expressed disappointment, claiming that Somizi’s political stance was influenced by monetary factors. They suggested that his support might have been influenced by financial incentives from the IFP and implied that he could potentially switch allegiances if another political party extended a similar offer.
Check out some of the reactions;
@nkabidenm;
He was singing for his next meal but I’m surprised because IFP is an after nine centre.
@jack37663364;
It’s his stomach talking – they probably paid him. Next he will be saying EFF, later he will be saying ANC.
@MrThizozo;
Anc no longer funds him so he is making a noise
@KgothatsoMokwe6;
Mbalula must reinstate 2020 charges. And also he must return all money he chowed via ANC gigs.
