A Candid Revelation on the ‘Popcorn and Cheese’ Podcast

On July 31, the ‘Popcorn and Cheese’ podcast, featuring hosts Mpho Modikoane, Farieda Metsileng, and Tsitsi Chiumya, aired an episode that delved into the personal experiences of the comedians. Among the stories shared was one by Tsitsi Chiumya, who humorously recounted accompanying an unnamed comedian from the Eastern Cape to an escort agency, where the comedian claimed to go for “thinking” rather than anything else.

“I once accompanied a comedian from the Eastern Cape with no teeth, he said he goes there to think,” Chiumya shared during the podcast, adding that men at the agency had what he described as “bedroom eyes.”

 Siya Seya Confirms the Story

Speaking to TimesLive, Siya Seya confirmed that the comedian Chiumya was referring to was indeed him. Seya explained that these visits to escort agencies serve as a space for him to reflect on his personal and professional life.

I do go to those places to think about my life. Tsitsi is telling the truth; I just do not recall going there with him. I was introduced to that kind of place by the industry,” Seya admitted, shedding light on his unconventional choice of a think-tank.

 Reactions to the Podcast

Seya became aware of the podcast episode after receiving a barrage of messages and calls from fellow comedians. Although he hadn’t seen the episode himself, Seya found humor in the situation, acknowledging that it wasn’t difficult for people to figure out that Chiumya was referring to him.

I did not see the podcast myself; my colleagues notified me of it. I don’t have a problem with his statement, that’s just how we are as comedians,” Seya remarked.

Choosing to Rise Above the Controversy

In typical comedic fashion, Siya Seya has chosen not to respond negatively or “clap back” at Chiumya’s comments. Instead, he expressed that he does not view the statement as a personal attack, but rather as part of the playful banter that is common among comedians.

We were not on a comedy roast; he was just making a joke as comedians do; it is not personal,” Seya concluded, showing his ability to rise above the potential controversy and maintain a light-hearted perspective.
