Amapiano sensation Sizwe Alakine has revealed that he entered the music industry already married at the age of 21 after a pastor forced him to.

Thirty-seven-year-old Sizwe Moeketsi, formerly known as Reason before transitioning from hip hop to amapiano, shared his story in a recent interview on the Choppin it with Bhuda T podcast.

Sizwe Alakine said:

“I came into the industry both a father and married. [Back then] I was desperate for love… I got the poor girl pregnant at a young age. Her dad is a pastor. The man called me into the room and said, ‘You are either all the way in or you’re all the way out.”

Sizwe explained that the situation led to an early marriage, as he felt obligated to do the right thing after impregnating the pastor’s daughter.

“He said I ruined his plan to raise a good girl, and I turned her into a woman. So I had to turn her into a wife,” he said.

Despite the challenges of marrying young, Sizwe expressed that he was deeply in love with his then-wife. However, convincing his own father that he wanted to get married at 21 proved to be complicated. In 2020, Sizwe, who was dating media personality Lootlove, divorced his wife. The two, however, remain friends and are raising their daughters in a happy and healthy environment.

Reflecting on his music career, Sizwe admitted that he struggled to fit into the evolving hip-hop scene, despite releasing several albums.

“My emotions and the music I wanted to make was just not it. I do not think the game has room for Reason now. Because hip hop just kept changing and evolving into this thing that I slowly was not anymore,” he explained.

The shift in his musical direction led him to embrace the amapiano genre, which he feels allows him to be more authentic in his artistry.
