In a shocking turn of events, the father of popular Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku, known for her role as Lizzy Thobakgale, has been arrested and charged with the murders of her mother and grandmother.
The harrowing incident took place in May 2021, and it was only recently that the police made a breakthrough in the case. The suspects, including a police captain, his girlfriend who is also a police officer, and an alleged hitman, appeared before the Lebowakgomo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Arrests Unveiled: Police Captain and Lover Detained
According to Zimoja, the accused individuals, identified as William Manku (53), Nonhlanhla Ngubo (42), and David Khoza (40), were apprehended in separate locations. William Manku, a police captain stationed at the Sandringham Police Station, and Ngubo, a police sergeant at the Linden Police Station, were arrested in Gauteng.
The suspected hitman, Khoza, a Mozambican citizen, was captured at the Lebombo Port of Entry while attempting to flee the country. The arrests were made possible by the diligent work of the Limpopo Murder and Robbery Unit, the Provincial Tracking Team, and the Benoni Flying Squad.

The heartbreaking murders occurred in May 2021 at Makgophong village, under the Magatle policing area. Amanda Manku’s grandmother, aged 70, and mother, aged 45, were fatally shot while fetching water at a local tap.

Charges Detailed: Conspiracies, Attempted Murder, and Robbery
The suspects are facing a number of charges including conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, attempted murder, two counts of murder, and defeating the ends of justice.
Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the charges and detailed the arrest. The suspects were nabbed by the members of the Limpopo Murder and Robbery, Provincial Tracking Team, and Benoni Flying Squad.
The investigation identified firearms used in the crime, leading to their confiscation for ballistic testing. Additionally, the authorities seized the motor vehicle involved in the murders and a phone belonging to Amanda’s late mother.
Police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba stated that the motive for the incident remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
Remanded in Custody: Suspects Await Bail Application
Meanwhile, the police have remanded the accused individuals in custody. The case has been postponed to Thursday, January 18, 2024, for bail application and further investigations.
