Skeem Saam Actress Phophi Mudau Mourns Husband’s Sudden Death
Phophi Mudau, known for her role on Skeem Saam, has suffered a heartbreaking loss with the sudden passing of her husband, Mohale Percy Ratlabala.
Her husband collapsed at their home and tragically passed away. He was 39 years old.

Sudden Collapse at Home
Mudau recounted the devastating moments leading up to her husband’s death to Zimoja. She explained that the couple had started their morning as usual, with no signs of anything out of the ordinary. However, at around 9 am, Ratlabala suddenly collapsed.
“We woke up at our usual time and it was a normal morning for us. And then he just collapsed at around 9 am,” Mudau shared.
She immediately called an ambulance, and paramedics rushed to their home.
“When the paramedics arrived, he was gasping for air. He became unconscious, and they tried to resuscitate him, but he was gone, just like that,” she added.
Ratlabala was pronounced dead shortly after the paramedics arrived. Mudau expressed her disbelief, stating that her husband had shown no signs of illness or health struggles prior to the incident.
A Devastating Loss
Phophi Mudau, who gained recognition for her role as Cindy Khuzwayo on Skeem Saam, shared that she and Ratlabala had been together for 18 years and married for nine. The couple also has a 10-year-old daughter, Moyahabo Mukondeleli Ratlabala.
Speaking of her husband’s sudden passing, Mudau expressed how deeply it has affected her, saying it was a huge shock.
“He wasn’t sick. It was just so unexpected,” she said in her emotional statement.
Funeral Arrangements to Follow
The family has yet to finalize funeral arrangements, with details expected to be announced in the coming week. Mudau and her family are asking for privacy as they navigate this difficult time.
