Skeem Saam To Take A Break
SABC has revealed its plans to stop its prime time show, Skeem Saam from shooting new episodes from March 1st.
The broadcaster says it has met its obligations as per contract with the show to produce the number of episodes that have already been produced.
Hence, the show will have to take a break from March 1st pending renewal of contracts for the next season.
At this moment, there are not plans to renew the contract but SABC will continue airing new episodes that were already produced together with omnibus repeat episode s, the broadcaster’s spokesperson confirmed.
A few weeks ago, SABC revealed that Skeem Saam had lost millions of viewers in the last quarter of 2020. Its ratings also dropped.
Could it be the reason why the show is taking a break?
Well, according to Phil Mphela, an entertainment commentator, SABC has ended effected such a break based on a number of reasons, but at this point it has no plans to cancel the show.

Therefore fans of Mzansi’s loved show are assured not to panic as remaining shows will be aired as usual ‘with no disruptions in transmission’.
It is, however, a disappointing episode for producers of the show and its cast who will go for an indefinite timeout without pay.
SABC says it only pays for episodes produced and delivered not talent payment.
“The SABC has duly fulfilled its contractual obligationz in relation to the production of Skeem Saam. We can also confirm that there is no description in transmission, ” Mmoni Seapelo, SABC’s acting spokesperson is quoted saying in a statement.
