The highly anticipated New Year’s Day event hosted at Maungo A Matsapa Lodge in Brits took a chaotic turn as internet sensation Skomota failed to appear, Sunday World reveals. Skomota’s no-show left fans disheartened and triggered a vandalism spree that marred the lodge’s property.
Skomota and Tman Xpress were slated to headline The Fireworks Display Event, drawing a massive crowd eager to witness his performance. However, the young dancer didn’t show up, prompting disappointment among attendees, especially for many children who had attended the event specifically to see Skomota.

Witnesses reported that attendees, feeling let down by Skomota’s absence, resorted to vandalizing the lodge’s property. A video circulating on social media captured the aftermath, showing a child gleefully admitting to damaging the lodge’s window. The incident has drawn criticism from eyewitnesses, who lamented the lodge owners’ destruction of years of hard work.
In response to the uproar, Maungo A Matsapa Lodge released an official statement apologizing for Skomota’s no-show. The statement expressed deep disappointment in Skomota’s decision and acknowledged its negative impact on their customers and management.
Apologies and Promises: Skomota and Management Respond to the Controversy
Skomota has also since issued an apology, attributing his absence to “life problems.” In a video statement released alongside his manager, Kholofelo Makgata, Skomota expressed his regrets for not being able to attend the event.
“Apologies, I could not come to Maungo A Matsapa Lodge in Brits”, before Makgata interjected to finish the statement saying, “but we promise you people of Brits who support Skomota, we will make it up to you. It was circumstances beyond our control, but we will come.”
Makgata promised that they would make it up to the people of Brits. He assured Skomota’s supporters that the circumstances preventing his appearance were beyond their control.
