Somizi’s daughter Bahumi, a well-known personality, has recently shared her deeply personal journey of living with lymphoedema. Diagnosed over ten years ago, Bahumi has faced numerous challenges, including physical pain, emotional trauma, and the struggle to prioritize her well-being. In a heartfelt social media post, she opened up about her experiences, offering a message of hope, self-care, and faith.

Bahumi’s Silent Struggle with Lymphoedema

For years, Bahumi shared that she chose to remain silent about her condition. She revealed that she often downplayed her pain to avoid burdening others.  This tendency to minimize her suffering stemmed from a trauma response she developed over time.

“In the moments I felt pain, I kept quiet about it. Pretending to be fine when I was not became a coping mechanism.”

This behaviour, though often praised as strength, was toxic and detrimental to her health.

Bahumi emphasized the importance of listening to one’s body and seeking help when needed.

“You neglect your body’s cry for help to please others or prioritize what seems more important at the time,” she said. “But you’re not your own doctor. If God brings your health to your attention—emotionally, mentally, or physically—you shouldn’t feel bad for addressing it. Take heed. Seek help.”

Questioning Faith and Finding Gratitude

Throughout her journey, Bahumi admitted to questioning her faith. She often wondered why God would allow her to endure such a challenging condition. “I experienced frustration and asked why this was happening to me,” she revealed.

However, over time, she found solace in gratitude. “Be grateful for the rain, the shelter, the legs, the sight, the rest, for life,” she urged.

Bahumi believes that struggles should draw us closer to humility and gratitude.

“We all have things we’re dealing with,” she said. “But instead of focusing on what we lack, we should be thankful for what we have. Allow God’s grace to cover what you don’t have. It’s all by His grace anyway.”

Breaking the Stigma

By sharing her story, Bahumi hopes to break the stigma surrounding health struggles, particularly conditions like lymphoedema.

“There’s so much shame and silence around health issues,” she said. “But we need to talk about them openly. Sharing our stories can help others feel less alone and encourage them to seek help.”

She also highlighted the need for greater awareness and understanding of lymphoedema.

“Many people don’t know what it is or how it affects those who live with it,” she explained. “By speaking out, I hope to educate others and foster empathy and support.”
