How Authorities Unearthed The Gory Crime
The shocking discovery unfolded after an off-duty police officer from the area raised the alarm regarding the disappearance of an older woman. What transpired next sent shockwaves through the community.
At approximately 8:04 am on Friday, January 15, 2023, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a distress call from the off-duty policeman. The gruesome reality emerged when Reaction Officers arrived on the scene with Verulam SAPS. They discovered the decomposing body of 72-year-old Daw Kerr on a bed in their rented communal housing room.
Initially, the son had misled first responders, claiming his mother had succumbed to natural causes. However, suspicions arose among other residents who hadn’t seen Daw since Tuesday. When RUSA demanded a wellness check, the son offered several evasive explanations. The pungent stench coming from the room heightened their concerns.
Son Kills Mother: The Details
The suspect, after providing conflicting stories, finally confessed to a disturbing account of his mother’s demise. Daw was visiting from a care home in South Beach, Durban. Her son wanted to bathe her, and she refused, resulting in a clash. In a fit of rage, he pushed her, and she smashed her head to the floor. She succumbed to the head injuries she sustained from the fall.
Rather than reporting her death, the son opted to conceal the crime. He left the property but returned to discover his mother’s lifeless body. Shockingly, he chose to remain in the room with her for three nights as her body began to rot. The Reaction Unit South Africa arrested the suspect without incident, leaving the community in disbelief.
Hazelmere residents are left grappling with the horrifying reality of a son turned alleged murderer.
