South African TV And Radio Stations Called To Stop Playing AKA Music
Calls echoe loud on Mzansi’s entertainment industry to stop the support given to talented muso, AKA who’s facing public backlash over leaked videos of him abusing his late fiancé Nellie Tembe.
Civil rights groups and activists that fight gender based violence in Mzansi want all South African TV and radio station, including online streaming services to stop playing AKA music.
This because they see him as an abuser.
AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes lost his fiancé to suicide on the 11th of April after she jumped to her death from the 10th floor of a Cape Town Hotel.
Now a month after her demise, the mystery on why she decided to take her life is still haunting many.
Last Sunday, the blame was shifted to the man in her life, AKA, who according to leaked videos and pictures could have been directly or indirectly involved in Nellie’s alleged suicide.
It is on this regard that civil rights movements have started the outcry on muting the muso.
One movement called Women For Change has spoken out publicly on the issue.
Their leader Sabrina Walter told Daily Sun that they have started mobilising and creating awareness for a possible march against AKA.
She, however said they have not yet approached radio or TV stations with a formal complaint.
This because they claim they do not condemn AKA as guilty in this particular tragedy. But as a civil society groups , it is their “duty to address violence against women in general.”
In other news, controversial poet and activist, Ntsiki Mazwai has caused a cocktail of reactions on the microblogging site, Twitter after she called for AKA’s music to be muted.
