Terrible Soapie Characters Of 2020
Lindani: The River
Actor and TV presenter; Lunga Shabalala exited from 1Magic’s telenovela; The River amidst rumors that he had been sacked from the show because of his terrible acting.
The heartthrob model is officially on the hunt for his next television gig after his two-year stint on The River came to an end. He played the role of Lindani Dhlomo, who was married to Tumi (played by Larona Moagi) but that marriage fell apart when Tumi started having an affair with his cousin; Mabutho. It is rumored the actor was actually replaced by Mabutho, who viewers preferred.
Skeem Saam’s Bongani Madondo who plays the role of restaurant manager: Sfiso replaced Ernest Msibi who previously played the role of Amos on Uzalo. While Madondo has been outstanding as Sfiso on Skeem Saam, he hasn’t done any justice to the role of Amos on Uzalo.
The issue is, viewers keep comparing him to Ernest Msibi who was not only spectacular as Amos but more convincing. Viewers of Uzalo would have enjoyed watching Madondo had Msibi not played the first Amos. Madondo is completely weird, fishy, uncomfortable, and unconvincing. Perhaps Madondo should leave the villainous roles to Msibi!
Mpho: The Queen
The River has a habit of ruining good actors. There have been many talented actors whom we’ve loved over the years and all of a sudden hated on the show.
Is it the script, the characters they play or have these actors been terrible all along? Ntando Duma who plays the role of Mpho Sebata is a classic example of a good actress gone bad because of The Queen. She is not the most talented actress in South Africa, but she wasn’t as terrible on the other shows as she is now.
Thulani Mtsweni was exciting and hilarious to watch as Sibiya in Isidingo but he is annoying and an absolute cringe-fest as Mpihlangene Zungu in Isibaya.
When the show’s main lead; Siyabonga Thwala played by Mpiyakhe Zungu exited the show for Mnet’s Legacy, the producers knew that they couldn’t do better than Thwala so, they opted for a cheaper actor to shake things up in Bubeseni.
But he’s a liability to the show, he hasn’t given viewers a reason to watch the show but made them change the channel. He’s not charismatic or charming!
Thando: The Queen
Jessica Nkosi isn’t cracking it as Thando Sebata on The Queen.
She’s not a terrible actress as she was absolutely phenomenal as Queen Mother Qondi on Isibaya but she’s not the right actress for the Thando role because she’s a lady, and too modest and gentle.
The role requires an actress to get out of her comfort zone, to be fierce, street smart, and to be kickass. Nkosi is too soft and rigid as Thando Sebata and she’s battling to convince us even when she’s supposed to be the angriest. It’s obvious that Nkosi is having a hard time connecting to this role and she’d rather do love scenes with SK Khoza who plays Shaka Khoza than do action role play.
